First Baptist Church Tinley Park
Wednesday, September 30, 2020

Sixty years ago (February 1952) three women saw a need to establish a Baptist church in the Tinley Park area.  They contacted Harvey Missionary Baptist Church for help in this endeavor.   The Harvey church sent ministers to conduct services until Rev. Earl Finney was called as the first Pastor in 1953.
Services were held at various locations.
The Mission was constituted and became the First Baptist Church on February 7, 1954, with 28 charter members.  This service was held in the old Lutheran Church on 174th Street.
Groundbreaking for a new building was in August, 1955, and a pastor's home was purchased.
In 1956, the congregation moved into the partially completed education unit.  The present sanctuary was completed and dedication services were held on Mother's Day, 1957.  An addition was later made, adding much needed office, kitchen and bathroom space to the church's present location at 7025 W. 179th Street, Tinley Park, IL 60477.
From our membership, six men have felt God's call into the ministry.  From this small beginning we look forward to many fruitful days ahead.
